Early Childhood Teacher Workshops First Encounters offers workshops on various topics for early childhood educators.
1.) Looking at Art & Developing Early Literacy Skills for Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers (2 hours) Ever thought of showing art to your babies? New research shows that babies LOVE to look at art. Viewing art can provide a multi-sensory experience for babies. Caregivers who view art and talk about it with babies can help to facilitate perceptual, cognitive, and early receptive language. This workshop will provide a knowledge base about early brain & language development, visual literacy, and helpful art-viewing strategies to implement in your learning environment. Where to find affordable art and how to set up your learning environment will be discussed.
2.) The Impact of Early Art Experiences on Brain & Literacy Development for Toddlers & Preschoolers (2 hours) Art activities are one of the best ways to promote early childhood literacy, language, and brain development. Art engages children's senses in hands-on, self-directed learning and develops essential cognitive, social, emotional, and multi-sensory skills. This workshop presents current, evidence-based research on the neuroscience of art and its impact on early brain and language development. Learn theory and practical strategies for maximizing the value and impact of skill when working with young children. Participants will have the opportunity to create hands-on art themselves.
3.) Art as Therapy for Early Childhood Educators and Their Early Learners (1.5 hours) This workshop is geared toward elevating the spirits and reducing stress by engaging in open-ended art as therapy experiences. Teachers will experiment with various art materials while learning to generalize their new skills to the classroom with early learners.
