Clay & Charcoal: Nature’s Markmakers. September 13, 2025. 10:30-11:15 AM.
Children will explore nature’s textures through charcoal rubbings of leaves, bark, and other found objects. Then they’ll add an earthy twist, layering their artwork with clay paint prints inspired by the natural world.
Children will develop these skills:
1. Sensory Exploration & Observation
Children sharpen their awareness of the natural world by feeling, noticing, and identifying textures in leaves, bark, stones, and enhancing their sensory perception and observation skills.
2. Layering & Mixed Media Techniques
By combining charcoal rubbings with clay paint prints, children learn how to layer materials creatively and develop an understanding of composition, contrast, and how different media interact.
3. Fine Motor Skills & Tactile Coordination
Rubbing and printing help children refine hand control and coordination, while working with textured surfaces supports their tactile development in a fun, hands-on way.
