Early Childhood Teacher Workshops First Encounters offers workshops on various topics for early childhood educators. All have been approved for Step Up To Quality in the state of Ohio. These workshops can also be found on the OCCRRA website.
1.) The Impact of Early Art Experiences on Literacy Development for Toddlers (2 hours) This seminar will provide a range of art experiences and alternative ways to teach critical thinking and visual perception skills. Simple art experiences can provide a wonderful venue to nurture literacy development. Being literate in the arts gives young children an advantage in learning to read and write. Experiences in studying lines, shapes, and colors can heighten awareness, facilitate word comprehension, and foster the development of reading and writing skills.
2.) First Encounters: Art Making Experiences that Enhance Early Literacy for Infants (2 hours) Providing a stimulating environment for infants is important for brain growth and development. This seminar will provide strategies to engage infants in multi-sensory art making experiences that can help to foster early literacy development.
3.) First Encounters: Art Viewing Experiences & Early Literacy for Infants (3 hours) Babies can benefit from viewing works of art because this can provide rich sensory experiences that lay the groundwork for perceptual, cognitive, and receptive language development to occur. Caregivers who view works of art and talk about them with babies can help to facilitate this early development process. This workshop will provide a knowledge base about early brain development and visual perception, aesthetic preferences of babies, and useful art viewing strategies to implement in the learning environment.
